Life loves to throw us curveballs. It likes to push us from our safe place and make us believe that we must always be on our toes, waiting for the following hit. It doesn't care if you are ready for it or whenever your downtime is. It does not even seem to bother to check on your everyday planner and ensure that you have nothing happening. There's nothing like life throwing you a spanner to make you feel like you aren't in charge of your personal life, but that is if you need to part of and take that control back. When life gets messy and feels like things are unmanageable, take a moment to organize.
Sounds easy to just say “organize,” but it is really unbelievable how easy it is to create the mind feel relaxed when you are able to manage one part of your life when another part isn't able to become controlled. A good example of this would be my closet. This weekend I had been feeling extremely down about my living situation and believed it had been never something I had been likely to be able to get a hang on. I have been saving for a long time, but it was as though life was always getting in the way in which and pushing those funds back out the door. So instead of crying or losing sleep over it, I discovered something that I possibly could control, my closet.
I know that might sound silly, but I have discovered that when I find a project it truly calms my anxiety about something that I can not change in life. I have been attempting to clean out my closet for weeks, then when I finally decided to do it, it had been as though I was taking charge again. When I experienced that closet and started to reorganize and rearrange all things in its rightful place, it was as if the weight of the world was being removed my shoulders and that i could feel happier about life. Organizing my closet wasn't likely to take away the problem, however it most certainly did take away the anxiety from this.
My anxiety, and i'm sure is equivalent to most others, makes me sometimes feel as though I am not able to accomplish enough within my life as fast as I wish to, but by organizing something, I'm able to get myself back in line and feel as though I'm driving again of my very own life. I will refocus my energy on doing something good for myself instead of focusing on this dark cloud that's been hanging over my head.
If you find yourself inside a similar situation, in which a part of you are spinning unmanageable and you aren't sure how to get it back on track, organize something. Find something you can control and permit you to ultimately become fixated on fixing the things that you are able to change at the moment. While it may not help with your long term goals, it will give you the reassurance that you need to keep moving forward.
